Wojciech Mońka from Lecha Poznań has been named the PKO Bank Polski Young Player of May 2026. This is his second such award in the 2025/26 season.
May was a month of great celebration at Bułgarska. Lech Poznań claimed their tenth Polish championship in history and their second consecutive title, and the Kolejorz centre-back played a huge part in that success. Wojciech Mońka played every minute in the last four rounds of the season, never leaving the pitch, and coach Niels Frederiksen's side did not suffer a single defeat during that time, winning twice away from home and drawing twice at home.
Composure and confidence – that is the briefest way to sum up the 19-year-old defender's performances in May. Mońka was reliable in his defensive duties, recovering as many as 19 balls, while not picking up a single yellow card. The Kolejorz academy product impressed in May with a figure that any seasoned playmaker would envy – 92.7% accurate passes from 301 attempts. He brought the ball out with the composure characteristic of a modern centre-back.
This is his second PKO Bank Polski Young Player of the Month award in the 2025/26 season – he previously claimed it in February. May was a fortunate month for him for another reason too: at the Ekstraklasa Gala, the young Lechita received the Defender of the Season trophy. The Polish championship, the award for the best defender in the competition, and a second Young Player of the Month title rounded off an incredible month for Wojciech Mońka.
This season, young player status applied to players born in 2005 or later who hold Polish citizenship. Players meeting both criteria are eligible for the PKO Bank Polski Young Player of the Month award. Nominees and the winner are selected based on statistics, in-match behaviour, and off-pitch conduct. In May, matches from matchdays 31 to 34 were taken into consideration.
